Welcome to the start of a busy week at Heritage Elementary, as we look forward to our second evening of conferences on Thursday night and a few Veteran’s Day-themed activities in the classroom on Wednesday. Here are a few reminders for the week ahead:
As a reminder, our second and final night of fall conferences is this Thursday (Nov. 12th).
It is still not too late to sign up for a fall conference with your child’s homeroom teacher on the second and final night of conferences! As mentioned in previous emails, you can access the new online scheduling site at http://www.ptcfast.com/schools/Avon_South. As mentioned in last week’s e-news, we had to cancel some conferences in the event that a parent signed up for multiple conferences with the switch teachers. Unfortunately, we only have 15 total conference slots for the second night of conferences, and with many homerooms standing at 12 or 13 students, the classroom teachers are not able to meet with parents beyond the students that are in their homeroom. In the event that you scheduled multiple conferences, you should have received an email notice that you secondary conference needed to be cancelled to enable each parent to have the opportunity to schedule a conference with their child’s homeroom teacher. Thank you in advance for your understanding with this necessary policy. You will be able to schedule a conference with your child’s teacher through Wednesday. After Wednesday, the site will no longer allow you to select an available timeframe for a conference on Thursday.
The November Booster meeting is just around the corner! If you would like to learn more about the goings-on at Heritage Elementary, please consider attending our monthly meeting the following Wednesday, November 18th, at 6:15. Also on November, 18th, we will have our monthly Pride Day. This month, selected students will be recognized for the character trait of “Responsibility”.
Avon Heritage Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings to school the books kids want to read. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits. This year’s book fair will be held in the IVDL room, located on the South end of the campus.
As mentioned in last week’s e-news, we will once again hold the “Design the Yearbook Cover Contest”. As we described in the handout that went out late last week, we are asking interested students to create their own unique, Heritage Elementary-themed artwork for consideration to be featured as the cover of our 2015-16 yearbook. The deadline for student submission will be Tuesday, December 1st. The Heritage staff will judge entries with the top vote-getter being featured on the front cover of the school yearbook. As in the past, we hope to feature “runner-up” illustrations on the back cover as well as throughout the yearbook.
With the weather changing as we get deeper into the fall season, we anticipate more days of indoor recess on the horizon. As we described last week, we are looking for additional recess options to keep the students engaged in the event that they are not interested in playing the typical indoor gym activities, such as basketball and jump rope. We have always offered interactive activities, such as board games and coloring books to the students for other indoor recess options. Some of our games and coloring books are showing some age. If anyone has any unused or unwanted board games, coloring books, etc. that they would be willing to donate, it would be much appreciated by the students during these winter months. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
Thank you for your time and attention to this weekly update. Have a great weekend!
