Welcome to the start of a busy week at Heritage Elementary, highlighted by Pride Day and the Booster meeting for the month of November.
This Wednesday, students are encouraged to show their school spirit by wearing purple and gold in honor of Heritage Pride Day. This month, like all other months, the homeroom teachers of each classroom will be nominating three students from their classroom that embody the monthly character trait. This month, students will be recognized for the character trait of “Responsibility“. Also on Wednesday, all parents are cordially invited to attend our monthly Booster meeting, which will be held at 6:15 in the Heritage Media Center on the south end of the campus.
The following Tuesday, November 24th, will mark the final day of school prior to the extended Thanksgiving weekend. As a result, we will have our Fall Festival, which will feature classroom parties in both the 3rd and 4th grade classrooms. The 5th grade classrooms will have a special seasonal treat during the study hall period as well. We would like to offer an early “thank you” to our many room parents who will be putting together treats and seasonal activities for the students during this event to close out the end of the school day next Tuesday. As mentioned in previous messages this year, due to a host of food allergies that may exist in classrooms, the district, in conjunction with the Boosters have been making a renewed push to be cognizant of any food-borne allergies that may exist and will take these special needs into account when distributing treats to the students in a classroom. As a result, many classrooms have opted to have sealed, pre-prepared foods with clear ingredients listed to distribute to the classroom.
Hard to believe, but the Friday of the week we return from Thanksgiving break marks the official midpoint of the 2nd grading period (which means we will be exactly 1/3 through the school year on Friday). On Friday, December 4th, Interim Reports will be issued to any student who currently has a “D” or “F” in any academic area. As a reminder, grades are currently posted for each student on PowerSchool Program. Please call the office if you need your username and password to access your account for this program.
As December approaches, we wanted to take a moment to share a few community-service related initiatives to help families in need during the holiday season. During the week of Dec. 14th, we will have a special canned/boxed food drive to benefit CRS of Avon/Avon Lake in conjunction with our “Math Week” events. Also at this time, we will have our “Giving Tree”, where students can donate hats, gloves, scarves, and mittens to be placed on the tree and donated to CRS. The tree will be located near the front entrance of the school. Students can also donate new toys to CRS, which will be placed under the tree during the month of December.
Finally, classroom teachers in 3rd grade have been preparing their students for a pair of short reading assessments that will take place on December 1st and 2nd, as part of the AIR Language Arts State Assessments. This year, the tests have been broken down into two, roughly hour-long assessments in lieu of the two hour reading PARCC assessment that was given last year. More information will be coming home shortly about these two assessments next week.
Thanks again for your time and attention with these weekly updates. We hope that everyone has a relaxing weekend. Go Eagles-Beat Perrysburg!
